Nathan is a musician, bartender, punk archivist, and Olympia lifer. His family moved to Olympia from Seattle when he was four years old. Nathan was 9 when he met Chris Pugh at the Olympia Community Center. After exchanging insults about hair length, they became fast friends. In 1981, while attending the experimental Thurston County Off Campus [high] School, they formed the band Zodiac Pet Products with drummer Tom Shoblom and guitarist Ian McKinnon. Soon after, they became Pet Products, considered one of the first bands from Olympia’s burgeoning punk scene made up entirely of locals. When Pet Products broke up in 1982, Nathan went on to play in multiple bands that captured the spirit of Olympia’s early punk days, including Idle Worship. Chris and Nathan also played together in the band Guillotine, who opened for the Butthole Surfers at the fabulous Tropicana in 1984. Nathan still lives in Olympia with his wife Sunny and their dogs, and he has poured many a cocktail as Olympia’s favorite “bar dad” at fine establishments including the Eastside Club, the Fourth Ave Tavern, King Solomon’s Reef (RIP), and McCoy’s. After nearly 45 years, Pet Products has a new orchid vinyl album out on Kill Rock Stars- get yours today!
