John Foster is a radio industry veteran and the founder of the Lost Music Network & OP Magazine. John grew up in Connecticut and moved to Olympia in 1974. He landed a summer job through a federal job skills program as the music librarian at KAOS, The Evergreen State College’s radio station, and enrolled at Evergreen that fall. John created the famed “green line” policy, a suggested guideline that 80% of the music played on KAOS come from smaller independent labels. Independent recordings were identified with green tape on their spines. The green line policy was instrumental in attracting musicians to Evergreen and putting Olympia on the map as a locus for creative culture. John raised two daughters in Olympia with his wife, artist Dana Squires. John plays basketball every week and is working towards retiring from his job as a Program Director at KXXO FM radio, where he’s worked since 1989.
