Markly Morrison is a musician, DJ, and audio journalist. Another Evergreen State College graduate, Markly founded Low Profile, a project that includes a podcast, a radio show on KAOS 89.3, and a public access television show on Thurston Community Media. Low Profile collects first-hand oral histories from indie musicians. Markly also organizes the Scherler Sundays summer matinee concert series, has worked as a weekend announcer at KXXO, and hosts the weekly Questionable Music Trivia evenings at 3 Magnets Brewery. He used to play in the Olympia bands LAKE and Lazer Zeppelin, and has performed under the name Skrill Meadow since 1998.
Mariella Luz (they/them) is an artist living in Olympia, WA. Mariella moved to Olympia from the DC suburbs to attend The Evergreen State College in 1995. They worked at K Records from 2001-2018. Mariella cofounded the Olympia All Ages Project, which operated the venue and gallery Northern from 2010-2015.
Kelsey Smith (she/they) is a librarian, freelance researcher/writer, artist, and community organizer. Kelsey is the director of Community Print, a 25-year-old community letterpress and print studio that provides instruction and access to modern and historic printing and publishing equipment. Kelsey worked for the Timberland Regional Library system for 15 years and started the zine collection at the Olympia Timberland Library. In 2015, she co-founded the annual Olympia Zine Fest with Sage Adderley. The festival continues to be an annual celebration of zines and independent publishing. Kelsey also volunteered at Northern | the Olympia All Ages Project. Kelsey formed Lefty Copywriting & Research Services LLC in 2022. She is honored to have collaborated on the first phase of the Olympia Indie Music History Project with Elaine Vradenburgh. She looks forward to future oral history and research work in collaboration with Mariella Luz and Markly Morrison with their new nonprofit, the Olympia Music History Project.
Elaine Vradenburg (she/her) is an oral historian and expert in oral traditions. She is the founding Co-Director and Memory Activist for Window Seat Media, a worker self-directed oral history and community storytelling nonprofit formed in 2016. She was the primary co-contributor for phase one of this music history project and has agreed to be a supportive collaborator in the current phase of our work.
Liza Harrell-Edge (she/her) is an archivist and program manager for Sound Transit. She has worked in many roles as an Archivist, Digital Scholarship Manager, and Records Consultant for the Evergreen State College, the Washington State Archives, the New School Archives, and the Fales Library & Special Collections. Liza volunteered as a project advisor for the Olympia Music History Project. She has helped to ensure we use best practices for preservation and access in our work.
Mychal and Danielle are creative partners and owners of August Creative agency in Olympia, WA. They designed and built our website and helped us conceptualize our growing archive. Danielle is a longtime Olympia resident who grew up in the PNW all ages music scene. She previously worked as promotions director at K Records and has volunteered in Olympia arts for more than 15 years. Mychal is an award-winning visual artist and graphic designer that has crafted identities and strategies for dozens of organizations in the PNW.
