Carrie is the guitarist for Sleater Kinney, an Olympia band formed in 1994. She moved to Olympia in 1993 to attend The Evergreen State College and started the band Excuse 17 with Becca Albee while living in an Eastside punk house. Excuse 17 often played with Corin Tucker’s band Heavens to Betsy, and their friendship developed into the musical collaboration that became Sleater Kinney. Other musical projects included the Spells and Wild Flag. Carrie moved to Portland after graduating from Evergreen, where she lives and works today as a published author, director, actress, and comedian. She published her memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl in 2015. Her award-winning sketch comedy show Portlandia ran for eight seasons on IFC.
