Kathi Wilcox is a musician living in Brooklyn, New York. Wilcox has been a member of Bikini Kill, the Casual Dots, the Julie Ruin, and the Frumpies. Kathi was born in Vancouver, Washington and moved to Olympia in 1987 to attend The Evergreen State College, inspired by her older brothers who had also attended Evergreen and the local music scene, especially the band Beat Happening. Kathi studied filmmaking and media studies. She became acquainted with Tobi Vail when they worked together in a sandwich shop and met Kathleen Hanna when they were roommates for a summer in Portland, Oregon. In 1990, Kathleen and Tobi asked Kathi to form the band that would become Bikini Kill, along with Billy Karren. While members occasionally switched instruments, Kathi primarily played bass. In 1998, Bikini Kill broke up and Kathi moved to Washington, DC, where she worked as an editorial assistant for the Washington Post. In 2002, she formed the band the Casual Dots with Christine Billotte and Steve Dore. Currently she lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband Guy Picciotto of the bands Fugazi and Rites of Spring.
